Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences Department of Medicine, St Vincent's Hospital

Our Research

The Department of Medicine undertakes research in pre-clinical, clinical and population science across a broad range of areas. The unifying theme of our research is Diabetes, focusing on metabolic medicine as it applies to renal and cardiovascular disease.

The ultimate goal for our research is to improve the treatment of human disease. As a clinical department of the University of Melbourne, we ensure that our research is driven by clinically relevant questions and that it is designed to discover better therapies.

The department actively promotes research in the hospital setting by funding and supporting research positions in affiliated hospital departments, ensuring research activity is encouraged in Rheumatology, Haematology, Endocrinology, Clinical Neurosciences, Nephrology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Clinical Pharmacology and Cardiology.
