Our Research
Professor Michael Kamm heads a research program in the field of gastrointestinal physiology and inflammatory bowel disease. These programs are broadly focused on clinical, laboratory and translational research. The Department of Medicine has strong links with the Department of Gastroenterology at St Vincent's Hospital, headed by Associate Professor Paul Desmond. Michael Kamm's work involves both these departments, as well as outside links with other clinical units and scientists.
In inflammatory bowel disease the focus is on improved disease management, use of new technology to guide therapy, modulation of gut flora, and basic aspects of flora - epithelial -immune function.
In the field of functional and neuromuscular gut disorders research spans from basic science to the clinical, physiological, pharmacological, and psychological aspects of intestinal and pelvic floor disorders.
