Thanks to all who came along to celebrate the completion of our renovations to the Department of Medicine on Thursday 29 October! - JDRF Walk
Thanks to all staff and students for their support for the JDRF Cure for Diabetes Walk – through the barbeque, jelly bean competition at SVI, participating in the walk and sponsoring our staff. Team SVH raised the largest amount of funds ever ($4763).

Congratulations to Associate Professor Alicia Jenkins, Chief Investigator for the Diabetes CCRE was recently awarded a highly prestigious University of Melbourne Knowledge Transfer Project Grant to the value of $10,000 as funding towards her project "A telemedicine diabetes care support program". This project also involves Professor Sven-Erik Bursell (pictured) who chaired the recent CCRE seminar, as well as Dr David O'Neal from the Department of Medicine. Our students have just returned from their Annual Retreat at the YMCA Recreation Camp in Anglesea, where they spent a relaxed, yet informative, weekend out of town. Speakers provided information on career options, important skills for a successful researcher, IP law and science communication. There was a lot of participation in team building exercises e.g. rogaining, canoeing, giant swing, high ropes and archery; as well as social and sporting events such as the dress up party, soccer, basketball and table tennis. The University of Melbourne, St Vincent's Cluster, funded all transport, accommodation, meals and activity costs. On Friday 1 May 2009 the NHMRC Diabetes CCRE hosted a symposium on 'Clinical research in diabetes and insulin resistance' and 'Public health and health services in Australia and beyond'The Keynote Speaker was Professor John Yudkin, Emeritus Professor of Medicine, University College London, UK
The symposium also featured presentations on current clinical research at St Vincent's and the University of Melbourne by Assoc Professor Glenn Ward, Dr Marno Ryan and Dr Andrew Wilson, as well as a panel discussion on public health services with Professor Kerin O'Dea AO, Dr John Furler, Dr Kevin Rowley and Ms Joanne Luke. -
Centre of Clinical Research Excellence (CCRE) Seminar
On Thursday 16 April 2009, the Diabetes CCRE hosted a seminar by Dr Margarite Vale, Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the COACH program,. The topic of the seminar was 'Translating evidence-based healthcare research into clinical practice: The COACH program - past, present and future'.Dr Vale developed the COACH program during her PhD studies as a novel method for empowering patients in the self management of risk factors for coronary heart disease.
