Profile
Dr Wendyl D'Souza is a practising FRACP accredited specialist in Neurology and Epilepsy Specialist. He is a Senior Lecturer in Neuro-epidemiology and contributes to both theoretical and practical aspects of undergraduate medical education, as well as overseeing and developing the epilepsy training program for advanced trainee neurologists. Between 1990 and 1999 he was a Senior Fellow conducting asthma epidemiology and public health research at the internationally renowned Wellington Asthma Research Group in NZ, and developed experience and expertise, in the design and execution of international multicentre epidemiological asthma prevalence and risk factor studies in adults and children. He was also a principal investigator in a prospective asthma management plan programme which resulted in 3 invited book chapters, its adoption by The World Health Organisation for treatment programmes with indigenous communities and is currently the 'blueprint' in a number of countries around the world for self-managing adult asthma. In 1992 he was awarded a prestigious New Zealand Health Research Council Fellowship in Public Health/Clinical Epidemiology. In 2002 he was awarded the RACP's Fellowship in Neurology. He reviews manuscripts for the respected journals The American Journal of Epidemiology, Epilepsia, and Neuroepidemiology. Since 2002 he has received grants from competitive and non-competitive sources totalling over $1.4 million. He co-supervises 2 advanced trainees in Neurology, 1 epilepsy fellow, one MD doctoral candidate as well as teaching medical students and FRACP basic trainees. Since 2004 he has been invited to give two international, and two national scientific presentations on epilepsy epidemiology. His research area is in the area of Neuroepidemiology especially epilepsy.

Member: Australasian Epidemiological Association, Epilepsy Society of Australia, Australian Association of Neurologists. As invited chairperson of the Asia-Oceania Epilepsy Congress Epidemiology Subcommittee he has provided leadership in developing Research Priorities in the Asia-Oceania Region and acts as epidemiology consultant on projects in the Asia-Oceania Region
