Profile

Professor Michael Kamm joined the Department in February 2008 as a Professorial Fellow.

He joins us from the UK, where he was honorary Professor of Gastroenterology at Imperial College, University of London, and Chairman of Medicine, Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Unit and Director of the Physiology Unit at St Mark's Hospital, London, England.

His clinical work covers the spectrum of luminal gastroenterology, with a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease, neuromuscular disorders of the gut and pelvic floor, and functional gut disorders. He spends half his time in clinical practice and half in research and teaching. His research spans from basic science to the clinical, physiological, pharmacological, epidemiological and psychological aspects of intestinal and pelvic floor diseases.

Professional Activities:

Michael Kamm is the author of over 400 papers and has written six books on inflammatory bowel disease and functional disorders. He is on the Editorial Board of several international gastroenterological journals, and is on a number of industry, government and charitable body advisory boards.

He has received a number of awards including the Margaret Ryan Prize in Internal Medicine from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 1978, the Francis Avery Jones research medal from the British Society of Gastroenterology in 1993, the Bengt Ihre Memorial Prize from the Swedish Society of Medicine in 1996, and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons Award in 1998.
